Measles Simulation

Explore how vaccination affects the spread of measles.

How It Works

Each dot represents a person with a vaccination status and a disease stage. When people get close together, measles can spread according to the simulation's rules.

Disease Stages

🔵 Susceptible — can become infected.

🟡 Exposed — infected, but not yet infectious.

🔴 Infectious — can spread the virus.

🟣 Recovered — recovered from infection.

⚫ Dead — died during the simulated outbreak.

Vaccination

Vaccination reduces the probability of infection in this model. Real-world vaccine effectiveness depends on the number of doses received.

Symbols

Green outline — vaccinated.

🔴 White cross — hospitalized.

Real-World Facts

Incubation: typically around 11–12 days until symptoms.

Infectious period: about 4 days before through 4 days after rash onset.

Two MMR doses: approximately 97% effective against measles.

Controls

Population — number of people in the simulation.

Vaccination — percentage vaccinated.

Initial infections — number infected at the start.

Model Limitations

This is a simplified educational model. Its results depend on assumptions about movement, transmission, hospitalization, and mortality. They are not forecasts.
